23rd September 2015, PHS Vs Wright Robinson College (English Schools Round 1), PHS lose 5-6
Poynton’s Year 9 boys were knocked out of the English Schools cup in the first round by Wright Robinson College. Despite going 2-0 up in the first half with two clinical finishes from striker Jamie Wrench, Poynton were pegged back at half time to 2-2. Poynton started the second half brightly and managed to restore their two goal advantage thanks to another couple of goals from Jamie Wrench. Wright Robinson then dominated the game and scored four goals to make it 6-4 to the visitors. A late penalty from Matt Knott reduced the deficit late in the game but Poynton were unable to find an equalizer to stop them from being knocked out of the competition. Man of the match was Jamie Wrench who was clinical in front of goal. James Bearn was also very strong in defence as was Dominic Robinson on his debut for Poynton.
